We recommend purchasing comprehensive travel insurance—ideally with a Cancel for Any Reason clause—to protect your investment. Crown Mountain Guides proudly partners with Global Rescue for travel protection and emergency evacuation coverage.

What is the best time of year to go? +

The best time to visit Alaska depends on the adventure you’re after. For heli-skiing, the peak season runs from February through April, when deep powder, longer daylight, and stable snow conditions create world-class skiing and snowboarding in the Chugach Mountains. If you’re coming for fishing or heli-access fly-fishing, June through early September offers long, sun-filled days, abundant wildlife, and thriving salmon runs. For mountain biking, hiking, and alpine exploration, July and August deliver the best combination of warm temperatures, clear trails, and lush scenery. Each season offers something different — from snow-covered peaks glowing in spring light to emerald valleys and glacier-fed rivers in summer — making Alaska an unforgettable experience year-round.

Do you pick up at the airport? +

Yes — all Crown Mountain Guides guests are picked up directly from Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport in our private shuttle. It’s a quick and scenic drive, taking about one hour through the mountains and along the Knik River Valley to reach Alaska Glacier Lodge.

How much does it cost? +

Pricing varies based on trip length and whether you choose a private or semi-private experience. Our team is happy to provide detailed pricing and options upon inquiry. To give you an idea, semi-private heli-skiing packages start at $5,750 for a three-day, all-inclusive experience covering lodging, meals, helicopter time, and guided skiing in Alaska’s most incredible terrain.

lodging
Do the cabins have a private bathroom? +

Yes, every guest enjoys their own private cabin, each featuring a full bathroom and shower. There are no shared cabins or facilities, providing an unmatched level of comfort and privacy that’s rare in the heli-skiing industry. To make your stay even more memorable, we also include a special welcome gift basket as a gesture of our gratitude and to make your experience truly one-of-a-kind.

What happens if the weather does not cooperate? +

If weather keeps us grounded, we fully embrace what we call “down days.” Past guests often say these become some of their favorite moments. Relax at the lodge, enjoying gourmet meals, request your favorite cocktail, recover in the sauna, soak in the hot tub, or explore the surrounding wilderness with optional guided activities (bonfires on the glacier is a guide favorite). It’s all part of the Alaskan experience.

What food options are available during my stay? +

One of the highlights of your stay is the food. Our private chef takes pride in creating incredible meals from breakfast through dinner, with everything made from scratch using fresh, local ingredients. Whether it’s a hearty mountain breakfast or a fireside dinner after a big day in the alpine, you won’t go home hungry. Think homemade soup and fresh sandwiches served from on the heli basket transformed into your table atop a snowy Alaskan peak, a truly unforgettable mountain dining experience

adventures
Is the there terrain and activities for all skill levels? +

Yes, we design every trip around your individual skill level to ensure the perfect balance of challenge and enjoyment. Whether you’re a blue, black, or double black skier or rider, our guides match terrain to your ability and comfort… from wild to mild. The same goes for our mountain biking and fishing experiences, from mellow alpine trails and crystal-clear streams to steep descents and remote river systems. Every adventure is tailored to your pace, goals, and experience level.

How many runs/vertical do I get to ski per day? +

Most heli-ski days in Alaska include around 8–10 runs, with each descent averaging 3,000–4,000 vertical feet depending on weather, snow, and terrain. At Crown Mountain Guides, we operate on HOBBS hours, meaning your flight time—not a set run count—dictates the day, giving us the flexibility to maximize skiing when conditions allow. Semi-private trips typically share a helicopter between two groups, alternating runs throughout the day. Private trips, on the other hand, have dedicated aircraft and guides, allowing for more runs and greater vertical when the snow and weather cooperate. On good days, the standard HOBBS hours are usually enough to wear out your legs, but additional time can be added for those who want to keep pushing. Every day is customized to make the most of conditions while prioritizing safety and fun.

How many people can fit in the helicopter? +

Our helicopters typically accommodate up to six people, depending on weight limits. A standard guided adventure includes one pilot, two guides, and three guests — a small, personalized group ideal for safety and flexibility in the mountains. For semi-private experiences, we sometimes use a method called “double hauling,” where two groups share the same helicopter and alternate runs throughout the day. Private groups have the aircraft dedicated solely to them, allowing for more runs, more flexibility, and a truly customized heli experience.

Why does Crown Mountain utilize two guides when other operators only use one? +

Crown Mountain Guides uses two guides on every heli-ski group — a lead guide and a tail guide — to ensure maximum safety and awareness in complex mountain terrain. While many operators rely on a single guide, our two-guide system provides an extra layer of protection, communication, and guest support. Combined with our highly experienced pilots and rigorous training standards, this approach has helped us maintain a flawless safety record throughout our operations.

What gear do I need to pack vs what is provided? +

We provide all required avalanche and safety equipment, along with the option to demo our latest Armada skis and Cardiff snowboards. Guests should come dressed for the elements as Alaska’s weather can change quickly, and temperatures can drop fast, so layered, technical clothing is essential. We also share practical travel and packing tips as your trip approaches to help you stay warm, comfortable, and fully prepared for your heli-skiing adventure. No matter the season or adventure, Crown Mountain Guides provides top of the line equipment, including fly fishing equipment, mountain bikes and even e-foils.

What are the safety precautions? +

Heli adventures, especially skiing, come with high consequences — and we take safety extremely seriously. Crown Mountain Guides follows a comprehensive approach built on layers of protection: every group has both a lead and tail guide for constant oversight, our guides undergo rigorous mountain and avalanche training, and our pilots bring decades of experience flying in Alaska’s most challenging terrain. Most importantly, we operate with a holistic safety model that’s rare in the industry — we own and manage every aspect of your trip, from aircraft to guides to lodging — giving us complete control over safety standards and ensuring a seamless, secure experience from start to finish
